Sree Narayana Mission Matriculation School, Saibaba Colony, the mouthpiece of which comes out annually in the form of this publication "Golden Wings", is run by Sree Narayana Mission, an independent organisation dedicated to the service of society, based on the ideals and teachings of Sree Narayana Guru, the saintly social reformer and spiritual leader from Kerala. It is an accepted fact that Gurudeva's messages and philosophical dialectics embodies strong foundations for the everlasting unity, peace and progress of mankind and are gaining relevance more and more as days and years pass by in this turbulent and strife-ridden world.
Sree Narayana Guru, during his journey through Tamilnadu had visited Coimbatore sometime in the second decade of the last century. This visit had created a surge in the people of the place getting attracted to his doctrines and more and more of them becoming ardent devotees of Gurudeva. Most of them, then living scattered in different parts of the city, used to congregate on occasions like Guru Jayanthi which were conducted with revered programmes including Gurupooja, poor feeding, spiritual discourses and ending with a cultural entertainment. Many among those devotees, taking active part in organising such annual fete were those who had the enviable experience of seeing and being blessed by Gurudeva in their younger days. Their firm conviction in the efficacy of a life reflecting the virtues embodied in his messages led them to think over the necessity of an organisation to serve the people in the way Gurudeva advised his followers through his dictum "Organise and be strong". The formation of Sree Narayana Mission was the result of their unified efforts to bring all the devotees to one fold, with the object of fulfilling Gurudeva's aim of" One World" through the Universal Brotherhood of Mankind.
"Progress through Education”, "Whatever be the Religion, Man should aim for perfection”, "The deed one performs for his own sake should be of benefit for others too" etc, if followed scrupulously and adopted in good faith, would pave way for a society where all could live in equanimity and with equal freedom. Sree Narayana Mission in Coimbatore was thus formed by Gurudeva devotees in the year 1959 and was subsequently registered officially as a Society under the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act in the year 1960 under No. S 80/60. The Edifice which stands aloft on Sree Narayana Guru Road in Saibaba Colony is built upon the strong foundation of the sweat and toil the founders and pioneers of the institution had profusely and unhesitatingly preferred in the early days. It houses the Sree Narayana Mission complex consisting of the Mission Prayer Hall library and reading room and the reason erected Gurumandiram. The preference of the members from the every start after organisation to have a building as a Central place to plan and to regulate the activities of the Mission to 9 years to bear a fruit and the building was opened on 22-6-1969
Among many an objective in the list of social services envisioned by the Mission from the- very beginning, it took up education as the prime need of the time so that, the needy among the common class and the have-nots could aspire for and attain it without difficulty. Keeping in mind the importance of technical education visualised by Gurudeva long back, the members of the Mission embarked on a project to start a Polytechnic. Sree Narayana Guru Educational Trust was founded in 1983 with the members of the Mission as Managing Trustees and Trustees to manage and administer the institution which was named then as Sree Narayana Guru Institute of Technology and started functioning in 1984. The institution located in Madukkarai and at present known as Sree Narayana Guru Polytechnic College attracts students from all over the State and from the neighboring State of Kerala. Spurred by the reputation it gained as one of the foremost self-financed Polytechnics in the State, the Trust ventured to start an Arts and Science College by name Sree Narayana Guru College at K.G. Chavadi in 1994. Both the institutions have produced exemplary records in technical and academic excellence in the educational spectrum of the region. Recently another prestigious institution viz., Sree Narayana Guru Institute of Management Studies has also come up in K.G.
